A Simple Question

Why do Democrats (the McGovernite New Democratic Party, that is) so regularly beat up on our allies (see Hillary Clinton here getting tough with Israel), while turning on all their considerable charm towards the regimes that despise us the most (Ahmadinejad, Chavez, Castro)?

Could it be that their post-nationalist sense of America as a global sinner makes them suspicious of anyone that would take our side?  Do they naturally empathize only with those who feel contempt for America?

Is this some bizarre version of the Marxist (Groucho) joke about not joining any club that would have us as a member?  Is this what’s become of the party I have supported my entire life?

What a sad, sick thought.  Even if I am right, I am sorry I thought it.

Mr. Obama is a new Leftist who really does believe that American imperialism and military bravado is what has poisoned much of the developing world against America and brought to power populist dictators like Chavez and Achmadinijad. Mr. Obama understands and feels their pain and feels compelled to identify with them and help them overcome it. No, no, I am not joking, Barack Hussein Obama “knows” from his Black experience the suffering and he now has the power to make things better.
Mr. Obama also believes that in America herself, that the rich and powerful Whites have enjoyed an unfair adavantage over the poor and Colored, ufair and illegitimate advantages which Mr. Obama’s federal government can and must address by levelling the playing field. Mr. Obama will do this by universal health care, immigrant amnesty, wholly subidized university education for all, and all the other spending programs he and his Left wing buddies can devise. He also truly expects to finance these wonderful entitlemens by taxing the living daylights out of the rich and powerful, and by government control over the banking and industrial systems. Mr. Obama and his buddies truly believe that the CEO’s and CFO’s of powerful and financially strong institutions must be paid “reasonable compensation” and that any bonuses should be paid to the workers and not the managers, and better yet, since the government will in effect “own” these corporations anyway, any proceeds should go there first.
Mr. Obama’s only job experience has been brow beating or mau mauing the Chicago political system into producing entitlements for the Black community of South Chicago. Now of course he no longer has to depend on demonstrators in front of Chicago City Hall, or like Jesse Jackson, the threat of demonstrations at the corporate headquarters of major corporations based in or operating from Chicago; no now Mr. Obama is the dreaded “Man” and he can simply sign an Executive Order granting entitlements or call on the Democrat controlled Senate and Congress to legislate them, indeed, in a couple of weeks after Judge Souter retires, Mr. Obama will have a Left Liberal Supreme Court in his back pocket to reject any legal challenges to his hijacking of the American Free Enterprise system and representative democracy.
But Americans voted him into office and you get what you vote for.

Powerful thoughts. But one small correction: Souter’s replacement can hardly be a more reliable liberal vote than he has been. Folks who knew him in NH before his elevation were astonished at his transformation. But the transformative effect of being given unchecked power to rearrange society for life is not to be underestimated. That is why so many judges grow more activist over time, while few grow more conservative.

As for Americans voting the present administration, it is true that democracy produces government no better than the people deserve. It is a harsh but moral system. The sad thing is that democracy in a world power tends to leave a lot of others in the world fully exposed to brutal tyrannies they do not deserve.
